South Dakota

We arrived in Custer, SD on Sunday July. We got there just as heavy rain had finished and we saw this rainbow. We stayed at the Custer KOA for 4 days. The girls meet twin girls from Fresno and had fun playing with them when we were in the campground.

These painted buffalo were all over the town. Everyone had a different scene on it. The weather was humid and usually mid 70's not to bad most days.

Wyoming

We pushed it a little today and got back on schedule. We made it to Rawlins which puts us on track to arrive in S.D. on Sunday for our camp reservation. Andrea and Amanda got really tired of seeing no trees through parts of Utah and what seemed like all of Wyoming. They said they wouldn't like living where there were no trees. They loved seeing all the Pronged Horn Antelope everywhere they looked.

Amanda picked out a Mexican restaurant called Guadalajara in Casper, WY. If you are ever going through there it is a really, really good place to eat.

We got in late to our KOA so it was pretty much go to bed and get on the road the Sunday morning.

Utah at Last

We finally made it to Utah, a day late. The girls were impressed with the salt flats and how salt was made. We also timed it so we were hungry by the time we reached Salt Lake City and our first Cracker Barrel. They loved the store and pick out a new Webkinz animal. Since they are flying back I told them they could purchase only one new stuffed animal on the trip so now we don't have to spend time looking at those anymore. :-)

Being vegetarian they weren't so impress with the food choices but liked what they ate.

Still in Nevada

Because we got such a late start leaving Reno we only made it as far as Elko, NV. The goal was to get to Salt Lake City on day 2 so we are a little behind.

It was a nice little RV park but what they listed as 2 swimming pools looked more like oversized bathtubs. So we went up the hill to their sister hotel and swam.

Day 2 Still in Reno

Well our 2nd day was spent waiting on Sonny to return from the Chevy dealer. It took 6 hours and John L. Sullivan Chevy in Roseville to pay over $450 to clean up their mistakes. While the girls and I waited at the Grand Sierra Resort we took advantage of the buffet breakfast and pool. Then we got a snow cone.
Finally we left Reno about 2:00pm.

Day 1 Were On the Road

We picked up Andrea and Amanda in Weimar about 3:00 on Thursday. Everyone was excited about finally getting started. We didn't even make it to Nyack before the truck overheated and blew out all the engine coolant. We sat on the road and got it cooled down, refilled all the water by pitcher and bucket from the kitchen sink and located the problem. John L Sullivan Chevy had done $2000 worth of work the week before and when they took off one of the radiator hoses and replaced it they forgot to put on the clamp, so of course it blew off. We finally made it to Reno and had to go ahead and spend the night so we could take the truck in for service on Friday.

A more eventful day than we had planned.

Travels with the Grandkids

Today July 8, 2010, is the day we start our cross country travels with our grandkids, Andrea (almost 11) and Amanda (almost 9). Oh, I can't forget Snicker and Doodle are along for the adventure too. We are all very excited to get going and have some fun. Along the way Andrea and Amanda will be doing some of the posting so stay tuned for some interesting writing and perspective on what is happening.
